Which bank issued a card?

The first digits of a card make up its BIN, the bank identification number: they identify the payment network and, within it, the bank that issued the card. Type them, or paste the full number.

Examples

Pick one to look it up.

How to read the result

  • Network: the payment brand, such as Visa, Mastercard or American Express.
  • Type: debit or credit.
  • Level: the product category set by the network, for example Classic, Gold or Platinum. Not every BIN carries one.
  • SPEI code: the five-digit code Banxico assigns to each bank in SPEI. Issuers that do not take part in SPEI, such as American Express, do not have one. The full list is in Bank codes and SPEI catalog.

What it does not tell you

A BIN identifies the issuer of a card. It does not say who the cardholder is, it does not point to an account, and it does not prove that the card exists or is still valid.

If what you have is a CLABE

The first three digits of a CLABE identify the bank. The guide “Which bank a number belongs to” explains how to read them.

Fetching it from the API

The same lookup is served at GET /v1/public/bin-lookup/{bin}, with no authentication. Send only the first 8 digits of the number.
